I’ve shared versions of this before, and honestly, it’s worth repeating because leaders still fall into the same trap.
They focus on the loudest people in the room.
The resistors.
The skeptics.
The people pushing back and draining energy.
And then they spend most of their time trying to convert them.
But that’s not where change is won.
In most organizations, a smaller group resists, a smaller group is already on board, and the largest group sits in the middle.
Watching. Waiting. Deciding.
That middle group is where momentum is built.
So I don’t try to eliminate resistance.
I focus on moving people one step to the right.
From resistance to neutral.
From neutral to supportive.
From supportive to advocating.
That’s how change actually gains traction.
If you ignore the middle, nothing scales.
So stop asking how to win over the loudest voices.
Start asking what would move the people who are still deciding.
Are you spending your energy on the noisiest voices — or the ones that actually determine whether change sticks?
