I talk about this a lot because I see the same mistake in transformation over and over again.
We start with the system.
What are we implementing? When is go-live? What features are we rolling out?
And then we wonder why nothing really changes.
Here’s the shift I make with executive teams.
I don’t start with the technology.
I start with the outcome.
What business result are we actually trying to achieve?
What needs to change in how people work to get there?
What needs to enable and sustain that change?
And only then do I ask where the technology fits.
Because the system doesn’t produce the outcome.
Behaviour does.
You don’t get value from go-live.
You get value from what people do differently after go-live.
So if your planning is still system-first, you’re already behind.
Are you delivering technology — or are you actually delivering outcomes?
